In June 2005, Park's Taekwondo moved from its home of 18 years on Islington Street in
Portsmouth to a newly re-designed and renovated building on nearby Peverly Hill Road.
Grandmaster Park held the first promotional test in the Peverly Hill Road dojang in July,
hosting two very prominent figures in taekwondo and Korean culture:
Grandmaster Moo Yong Lee and the Honorable Seh Jik Park. Grandmaster Lee is a former president of the United States Taekwondo Union and has held several other prominent postions in international taekwondo organizations. Dr. Park served as president of the organization and operating committee for the 1988 Seoul Olympics, which introduced taekwondo as an Olympic sport. He was also president of the 1986 Asian Games and president of the 2002 FIFA Korea-Japan World Soccer Cup. He served two terms (eight years) in the National Assembly of the Republic of South Korean (the equivalent of the U.S. Congress); in the cabinet as minister of sports and minister of government administration; and as a major general in the South Korean army. Grandmaster Park invited Grandmaster Lee, Dr. Park and Mrs. Park to join him at the head table to observe students demonstrating techniques, poomse, sparring and breaking. Dr. Park congratulated the students on their accomplishments and encouraged them to continue their taekwondo studies as a way of growing as citizens and individuals by strengthening their minds, spirits and bodies. Grandmaster Lee also praised the students for their hard work during the test, and recognized the school's five master instructors for their many years of dedicated training with Grandmaster Park. |
